Jessica received her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from Michigan State University and her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Franklin Pierce University in Arizona. After graduation, Jessica stayed in Phoenix and worked in an outpatient orthopedic clinic serving patients with various musculoskeletal, neural and viscerogenic dysfunction. Jessica's passion for restoring functional efficiency and commitment to providing the highest quality care for her patients led her to immerse herself in continuing education with the Institute of Physical Art (IPA). She migrated to the East Coast for a two year skills-enhancing IPA residency in Annapolis, Maryland. After extensive study in the area of Functional Manual Therapy, Jessica sat for certification and achieved the level of Certified Functional Manual Therapist becoming one of only 300 people nationally to have reached this level of expertise. Dedicated to lifelong learning, Jessica has also studied visceral and neural mobilization through the Barral Institute and pelvic floor course work through Herman and Wallace Institute and American Physical Therapy Association (APTA).
As consultants of movement efficiency, physical therapists must be proficient in looking at the whole patient—their mechanical capacity, neuromuscular function and motor control. Jessica’s interest in pelvic floor rehabilitation was sparked when working with talented specialists who integrated pelvic health with interconnected body systems, finding answers for her patients including marathoners, dancers and Broadway performers. Jessica quickly found that addressing the pelvic floor is an integral component and can be the missing link to achieving optimal functional performance.
Jessica thoughtfully collaborates with her patients to actualize their potential. She believes (and supported by research) that optimal function requires the individual actively involved in taking control of their wellness through the practice of healthy living. At Beyond Basics, Jessica helps lead postural screening seminars and participates in community education and events. She also helps with peer skills training and contributes on social media.
