Tina received her Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition and Exercise Science from Queens College and Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Long Island University Brooklyn. Following her completion of her doctoral program, she pursued advanced manual therapy training through the Institute of Physical Art and is now one of 300 physical therapists who have completed the intense certification process in Functional Manual Therapy (CFMT). The certification included 7 written and 7 practical exams testing mastery of functional manual therapy and neuromuscular re-education with specific movement patterns to help promote optimal and efficient human function. Tina uses this strong framework to look at the body as a whole and bring its function to optimal capacity.
Tina’s pelvic health training comes from the Herman and Wallace Pelvic Rehabilitation Institute. Tina also has an interest visceral function and its impact on the functions of the entire body including pelvic floor and is receiving training through the Barral Institute.
Prior to Beyond Basics, Tina worked in an outpatient orthopedic setting. Tina’s interest in pelvic health was sparked by inspirational mentors that highlighted the interconnectedness of the body. Tina’s strong manual therapy and orthopedic background allows her to understand how interrelated the pelvic floor is with the rest of the body. She also has an interest in dance medicine and provides backstage Broadway physical therapy for elite performers since 2013.
Tina is passionate about education for the community and physical therapists. Tina helped create and participates in postural screenings at Beyond Basics that are open to the public giving baseline information for injury prevention. Tina also contributes to the Beyond Basics Twitter page highlighting recent and relevant research and trends in the physical therapy and medical community.
