Hello there! My day job is as a full-time chemist, but I am also a yoga teacher with a strong desire to help people living with pelvic floor dysfunction experience an exercise option that will work for them. My classes are a mix of Hatha Yoga, Yin Yoga, and Pilates, and EVERY posture is selected, modified, and cued with the health of the pelvic floor in mind. Classes offer options for both stretching and strengthening "down there," so that those who are struggling can find what works best for their own bodies.
I have lived with pelvic organ prolapse since 2011 and found after completing physical therapy that the fitness options I tried all made my symptoms worse. I needed a gentle option that was somewhere between therapy and higher-impact sports. Close friends were experiencing similar issues and I wanted to become a solution to our problems, so I became a certified yoga instructor. I Trained with Leslie Howard on how to teach yoga for the pelvic floor and am constantly studying and learning new things so that I can help my students. Living with pelvic pain and prolapse, and many other concerns "below the belt" can be an exhausting and emotional struggle, but I have found yoga to be helpful for both body and mind.
All of my classes are offered online. There are 100+ videos on-demand that work well for people with busy schedules, and live weekend classes over zoom offer an opportunity to share the yoga experience with others. Many who are living with pelvic floor dysfunction have experienced trauma or are busy with family, some people are worried about COVID spreading in a studio while others just don't want to be touched during class, and none of these concerns are problems with online classes. I try my best to give my students a normal yoga experience that just happens to be mindful of the muscles no one wants to talk about.
Please note that I am not a physical therapist, and only a medical professional can say if yoga is a good option for your personal health concerns.
